Summary

Valley View School is a small public elementary school in Roy, Utah, serving 286 students in kindergarten through sixth grade. The school is part of Weber District, which ranks in the 34th percentile statewide. Valley View ranks in the 16th percentile among Utah elementary schools, an improvement from the 10th percentile the previous year, but it remains below most nearby district schools. Its relatively high-need student population is an important part of the school’s context: 55.94% of students qualified for free or reduced-price lunch in 2024–25.

Current academic results show the greatest challenges in fifth and sixth grades. Fifth-grade proficiency was 25.5% in English language arts, 21.8% in mathematics, and 31.9% in science; sixth-grade results were 25%, 27.3%, and 47.7%, respectively. Several earlier results show that performance can vary by year and grade: sixth-grade science reached 60.9% in 2023–24. Valley View generally outperformed Municipal School in several recent subject areas, but trailed the stronger nearby comparison, Riverdale School, which ranked in the 39th percentile. Good Foundations Academy stood out as the area’s highest-performing school at the 76th percentile, though it serves a different student population and operates outside Weber District.

Valley View has made encouraging operational progress. Chronic absenteeism declined from 36.4% in 2022–23 to 27.1% in 2024–25, although it remains above the district and state rates. The student-teacher ratio also improved from 21.9 to 17.3, the lowest among the nearby schools listed. These staffing and attendance gains have not yet translated into consistently strong academic results, suggesting that targeted support may be especially important in fifth-grade instruction, upper-elementary mathematics and English language arts, and attendance outreach. The school’s small size and favorable staffing ratio could support focused intervention and small-group instruction.
