Summary

South Sevier Middle is a public school serving grades 6–8 in Monroe, Utah, with 288 students in the rural Sevier area. The school ranks 56th out of 217 Utah middle schools, placing it in the 74th percentile with a four-star rating. This is a substantial improvement over its 45th-percentile ranking in 2018–2019 and is considerably stronger than nearby Red Hills Middle, which ranks in the 58th percentile.

Recent assessment results show broad academic strengths. South Sevier outperformed Red Hills in English language arts in every grade, with about 51% of students proficient overall compared with about 47% at Red Hills. Mathematics was another relative strength, especially in sixth grade, where South Sevier’s proficiency rate was 49.0% versus 25.5% at Red Hills. Science is the school’s clearest standout: proficiency reached 77.5% in sixth grade, 64.9% in seventh grade, and 65.9% in eighth grade, exceeding Red Hills, the Sevier District, and Utah statewide results in every grade. The school has also shown particularly strong effectiveness with economically disadvantaged students, ranking in the 74th percentile statewide for that subgroup in the most recent year.

Families should also note several areas to watch. Eighth-grade mathematics proficiency was 34.2%, below both the district and state, and fell from 43.5% the prior year. Chronic absenteeism was lower than at Red Hills—29.6% compared with 37.5%—but remained above Utah’s 23.8% rate. The student-teacher ratio rose to 22.8, compared with 20.8 at Red Hills, which may indicate larger classes or staffing pressure. Overall, South Sevier combines strong science performance, solid recent rankings, and better results than its nearby comparison school, while attendance, class size, and eighth-grade mathematics remain important priorities.
