South Sevier High

South Sevier High is a public school serving grades 9–12 in Monroe, Utah, with 426 students in the rural Sevier Valley area. It is part of Sevier District, which ranks 40th out of 92 Utah districts. The school currently ranks 34th out of 139 Utah high schools, placing it in the 76th percentile with a four-star rating—a major improvement from its one-star rankings earlier in the decade.

The school’s strongest results are its 97.1% graduation rate and 2.9% dropout rate in 2024–25, both better than Richfield High, the district, and Utah overall. Recent academic results also improved in every reported subject and grade. Ninth-grade performance was especially encouraging: 48.9% of students were proficient in math, 56.2% in science, and 50.0% in English language arts. The school outperformed district and state averages in most measures, although 10th-grade math was a clear weakness at 29.9%, below the district and only approximately equal to the state rate. Results for students from low-income backgrounds were also strong, with that subgroup ranking in the 77th percentile statewide.

Attendance is the main concern. Chronic absenteeism reached 31.7% in 2024–25, better than the district’s 34.3% but worse than Richfield High’s 27.2% and Utah’s 23.8%. The rate has risen substantially since 2020–21, so reducing absences will be important for sustaining recent academic gains. Compared with Richfield High, South Sevier High has stronger overall rankings, graduation outcomes, ninth-grade results, and 10th-grade science, though Richfield High leads in 10th-grade math. Nearby Cedar Ridge High is much smaller and serves grades 6–12, making it a less direct comparison.
