Salem Hills High is a large public high school in Salem, Utah, serving grades 9–12 and about 1,593 students in the Nebo District. Its latest statewide ranking is 56th out of 139 Utah high schools, placing it around the 60th percentile. This makes it an upper-middle-performing school and one of the stronger traditional high schools in its area, although its ranking has declined from higher levels in recent years.

Academically, mathematics is Salem Hills’ clearest strength. Its latest 10th-grade math proficiency rate was 36.0%, well above the Nebo District rate of 27.8% and the Utah rate of 29.4%. That result was nearly identical to Springville High and higher than Maple Mountain High, Spanish Fork High, and Payson High. Science was also slightly above district and state averages, while English language arts was close to average at 47.3% after a stronger prior year. Graduation is a major positive: 95.6% of students graduated, above the district and state rates. Salem Hills also shows particularly strong effectiveness for Hispanic students, students from low-income backgrounds, and students receiving special education services.

The biggest concern is attendance. Chronic absenteeism reached 39.8% in 2024–25—nearly two in five students and the highest rate among the nearby Nebo high schools. This is considerably higher than Springville High, Maple Mountain High, Payson High, and Spanish Fork High. The dropout rate also rose recently, even though it remains below state and district levels. Families may therefore see a school with strong graduation outcomes and durable math performance, but one where improving daily attendance and student engagement should be a top priority.
