Barnett School is a public elementary school in Payson, Utah, serving 508 students in prekindergarten through sixth grade as part of Nebo District. The school serves a community with relatively high economic need compared with most nearby district schools: 50.2% of students qualified for free or reduced-price lunch in 2024–25. Barnett currently ranks 374th of 563 Utah elementary schools, in the 34th percentile, with a 2-star rating. Its longer-term trend is encouraging, however, improving from the 18th percentile in 2020–21 to the 34th percentile today.

Academic results vary considerably by grade. Third grade is the clearest strength: 51.4% of students were proficient in ELA and 61.4% in math, exceeding both district and state results. Fourth grade is the biggest concern, especially ELA, where 18.1% were proficient compared with 44.8% in the district and 46.1% statewide. Fourth-grade math and science were also below district and state levels. Fifth-grade results remained below benchmarks in ELA, math, and science, although math improved from 29.1% in 2024–25 to 40.3% in 2025–26. Nearby schools provide important local comparisons. Park View School, only 0.75 miles away, ranks in the 70th percentile, while similarly sized Spring Lake School ranks in the 72nd percentile. Foothills School ranks in the 83rd percentile.

Attendance is another important issue. Chronic absenteeism was 33.7% in 2024–25, higher than the Nebo District rate of 26.6% and Utah’s 23.8%, though Barnett improved from 40.9% in 2021–22.
