Summary

Liberty School is a public elementary school serving grades K–6 in the Murray, Utah, area, with 244 students. It is part of Murray District, which ranks 54th of 92 Utah districts, or at the 41st statewide percentile. However, Liberty’s school-level standing is much weaker: it ranks 432nd of 563 Utah schools for 2025–2026, at the 23rd percentile, and receives a one-star rating. In 2024–2025, 37.8% of students were chronically absent, compared with 23.5% in the district and 23.8% statewide. Recent academic results show broad challenges. Liberty’s proficiency levels were below both district and state results in every reported subject and grade. Particularly low results included 3rd-grade math at under 20%, 6th-grade math at 10–29%, and 6th-grade science at 10–29%. ELA results ranged from 10–29% in 3rd and 4th grades to 37.5% in 5th grade. Liberty’s decline has been significant: it was in the 72nd–74th percentile in 2016–2018 but has fallen to the 23rd percentile today. Still, earlier results show that improvement is possible; Liberty’s 2022–2023 6th-grade math, ELA, and science results were competitive with or better than district and state benchmarks. Its 16.8-to-1 student-teacher ratio is also more favorable than those at most nearby schools, suggesting staffing ratio alone does not explain the outcomes. The most important improvement priorities appear to be reducing chronic absenteeism, strengthening foundational reading and math, improving science achievement, and understanding why recent cohorts have performed so differently from earlier ones.

The teachers are great. The office staff is questionable and not highly intelligent. They constantly take advisement from parents without authorization to change the child's school records. From changing the custodial parent and emergency pick-ups, and not getting legal authorization from both parents before a child sees the school therapist. Meaning you will always have to keep an eye on things to get them corrected.
So if you are a parent with a split house just know they do not follow legal court documents and will blindly follow any instructions about the well-being of your child Close Quote

Wonderful school with fully engaged teachers who are committed to education and also ensuring the kids develop good "people skills." Strong community involvement. Excellent PTA with supportive parents. This school has the kind of principal who will work the cross walk just for fun, or ride the bus route on any given day. He is always in the halls, in the classrooms and on the playground just to have a presence and earn the respect of the kids. The kids look up to him - he is a wonderful influence and fosters high energy in the school. Close Quote
