Kings Peak High

Kings Peak High is a small public school serving 315 students in grades 9–12 in West Jordan, part of the Jordan District. Located on South Redwood Road, it has a 17:1 student–teacher ratio and a 24.44% free/reduced-price lunch rate. The school ranked 116th of 139 Utah high schools in 2025–26, placing it in the 17th percentile with a one-star rating. Its enrollment is far smaller than nearby Bingham High, West Jordan High, and Taylorsville High.

The school’s graduation rate improved sharply to 82.7% in 2024–25, up from 63.0% the previous year, but it remained below the district’s 91.8% and Utah’s 89.8%. Its 16.0% dropout rate was nearly twice the state rate, although it improved from 30.9%. Chronic absenteeism was 21.5%, slightly better than district and state averages, but it increased substantially after several years below 7%. Academically, mathematics is the clearest concern: 9th-grade proficiency was 6.3%, while 10th-grade proficiency was under 21%. Science was also below state and district levels, at 30% in 9th grade and 20–39% in 10th grade. English language arts was comparatively stronger, with 46.6% proficiency in 9th grade, near the state average; the 10th-grade result was reported as 30–49%.

For perspective, similarly sized Itineris Early College High enrolls 366 students but ranks 24th statewide and reports stronger graduation, math, and science outcomes. Bingham High also has much higher graduation and lower dropout rates. Kings Peak’s results are closer to those of West Jordan High and Taylorsville High. Overall, the main issues to investigate are mathematics instruction, student attendance, persistence, and dropout prevention. The small enrollment may contribute to year-to-year swings, so families may want to consider multiple years of results rather than one statistic alone.
