Beehive Science & Technology Academy is a small public school in Sandy, Utah, serving grades 6–12 with 424 students. Its science-and-technology focus, 17:1 student-teacher ratio, and smaller setting distinguish it from nearby large high schools such as Brighton High, Alta High, and Jordan High. The school ranks 48th of 139 Utah schools, placing it in the 65th percentile statewide. Although that is a solid position, it is below Beehive’s especially strong rankings from earlier years.

Beehive’s clearest strengths are in middle-school academics. In 2025–26, math proficiency was 43.5% in sixth grade, 68.8% in seventh grade, and 54.8% in eighth grade—above Utah rates at every level, especially in seventh grade. Middle-school English language arts was also above the state in all grades, while eighth-grade science reached 62.9%, more than 12 points above Utah. High-school English language arts remains competitive: ninth-grade proficiency was 54.9% and tenth-grade proficiency was 51.3%, generally stronger than results at Hillcrest High and Cottonwood High. Ninth-grade science was another bright spot at 58%, above the state and most nearby comparisons.

The main academic concern is the transition to high-school mathematics. Ninth-grade math proficiency fell to 36.7%, and tenth-grade math was 28.3%, both slightly below state levels and well below Beehive’s stronger middle-school results. Attendance is another warning sign: chronic absenteeism rose from 11.4% in 2021–22 to 21.1% in 2024–25. That increase may contribute to year-to-year volatility in performance. Beehive currently compares favorably with several nearby large schools, but Brighton High remains the stronger local benchmark in ranking, attendance, and many high-school outcomes. Graduation and dropout data for Beehive were not available, so completion outcomes cannot be directly compared.

I am very disappointed in this school. It's ranked top in the state for public schools yet lacks in a variety of areas. Because it is a STEM school, their academics are entirely focused on those areas which means there is no variety for students (which stands to reason). It's great if your kid loves mathematics and engineering. The only technology really at this school is that they use iPads for most of their assignments and they have a robotics club.

They made a lot of promises on classes and clubs they would offer which they didn't fulfill. The beginning of the year was extremely disorganized. Students didn't get locker assignments or even class assignments until the day of the first day. It seems like the administration rushed into this just so they could have the K-5 included this year and I feel like it was poorly managed overall. Many students didn't get iPads until two weeks into the school year and teachers were already assigning work that could only be done on the iPad. Teachers are still disorganized.

When it comes to parent/teacher communication, the teachers rarely if ever respond to emails and do not allow for any sort of office hours for students or parents to address concerns. My student ends up frustrated because the teachers are impatient and do not take the time to actually help students who are struggling. The most they do is offer the tutoring which is only for math. There are clubs, but they are exclusionary. My student tried joining some clubs and was told by students that he wasn't allowed or they didn't want them there.

Students are very crass and constantly make sexual or inappropriate jokes. They call each other the n-word and bully other kids based on race or status. The teachers are also very punitive and have taken away iPads before the school bell even rings or assign detention for minor infractions like wearing socks that are too colorful. My student made some friends at the school and almost every single one is leaving before the end of the year. My student hates it here.

They have very little to offer for electives for students. All are math and science based (One music based) or they have 5 different options for "study table" where kids just spend that time doing homework. Standard public schools offer more than what Beehive has.

If your child is creative AT ALL, I would recommend steering clear of this school. If your kid thrives on learning math and science, then they may like it. Close Quote
