High Schools in Granite District

Granite District has nine high schools serving about 19,381 students in grades 7–12, with most schools serving grades 9–12 and a wide range of academic outcomes across the area.

Skyline High is the clear standout, ranking ninth among Utah high schools and earning five stars. It has a 97.1% graduation rate, a 1.8% dropout rate, and the strongest current test performance, with about 59% proficiency across the reported assessments. Olympus High is the next strongest option, ranking 29th with four stars, a 92.2% graduation rate, the lowest chronic absenteeism among the comprehensive schools at 19%, and approximately 50% average proficiency. Both schools performed above district and state averages in every listed current assessment. Taylorsville High is the strongest of the remaining comprehensive schools academically, with roughly 30% average proficiency and relatively stable results, although attendance and dropout rates remain concerns.

Several schools face more significant challenges. Granger High has the lowest graduation rate, at 73.4%, and the highest dropout rate, at 25.8%, while also serving the district’s largest student population. Cottonwood High has the highest chronic absenteeism rate at 43.4%, and Cyprus High, Kearns High, and Hunter High report especially low mathematics proficiency. Granite Technical Institute is a specialized school with only 86 students, so its limited reporting and small size make it unsuitable for direct comparison. Overall, attendance support, ninth- and tenth-grade mathematics, and graduation completion are the most important improvement areas.
