Summary

Timber Creek Elementary is a high-performing, 5-star school serving 970 students in grades PK-5 in The Woodlands, TX, as part of the highly-ranked Tomball Independent School District (Isd).

Timber Creek consistently ranks in the top 5% of all Texas elementary schools, currently sitting at #109 out of 4,627 (98th percentile) for the 2025-2026 school year. The school is particularly strong in Mathematics, with proficiency rates (76-82% across grades) significantly higher than both the district and state averages. It also excels at serving its Hispanic and English Language Learner students, who rank in the 99th and 95th percentiles statewide, respectively. However, 5th Grade Science is a relative weak point, with only 56.77% of students proficient in 2024-2025, which is only slightly above the district average. The school also shows some volatility in its support for Special Education and Gifted & Talented students, with rankings that have fluctuated in recent years.

While Timber Creek is an elite school, it lives in the shadow of its district neighbor, Creekside Forest Elementary, which ranks #12 in the state (100th percentile) and achieves near-perfect test scores. For families prioritizing the absolute highest test scores, Creekside Forest is the clear choice. However, Timber Creek offers a much larger student body, which can translate to more diverse social opportunities and a wider range of resources. The data also reveals a stark socioeconomic and academic divide between the Tomball ISD schools and neighboring Klein Independent School District (Isd) schools like Schultz Elementary and Northampton Elementary, which have significantly higher rates of economic disadvantage and lower academic performance.

Open Quote All three of my children have enjoyed attending Timber Creek. The staff is very nice and the school fosters a positive environment. The school is well-run, and the PTO is strong. There are many extra-curricular opportunities for the students, and the school itself is beautiful! However, the school is lacking in academic rigor and achievement. The sister school in the neighborhood (Creekside Forest) is ranked very high academically and has earned high marks with the state of Texas. Timber Creek has consistently performed well below Creekside Forest despite being located in the same neighborhood with practically the same demographic. This is very disappointing. And the Houston Chronicle ranked Creekside Forest #7 in the Houston area while Timber Creek was ranked #72. Why is there such a big difference between the schools? But Timber Creek has a new principal this year, so I hope they will make a much needed difference in academic performance and achievement and bring Timber Creek to its full potential.
