Summary

Murchison Elementary in Pflugerville, TX, is a high-performing school serving 651 students in grades PK through 5, and it has consistently ranked among the top 10% of elementary schools in Texas for the past decade, earning a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger.com for nine consecutive years.

What truly sets Murchison apart is its exceptional performance in mathematics, where proficiency rates are nearly double the state average—for example, 87.2% of 4th graders were proficient in math, compared to just 49% statewide. This makes Murchison a "math powerhouse" in the area, significantly outpacing nearby schools like Highland Park Elementary (70% proficient) and Riojas Elementary (59% proficient). The school also excels at closing achievement gaps, with Hispanic students and English Language Learners performing in the 93rd and 94th percentiles statewide, respectively—a remarkable feat that highlights an inclusive and effective learning environment. While Murchison is a standout in the Pflugerville Independent School District (ISD), which ranks in the 49th percentile overall, its success appears driven by school-specific factors rather than district-wide policies. In contrast, Blackland Prairie Elementary in the higher-performing Round Rock Independent School District (ISD) (79th percentile) is a strong school but ranks slightly lower at the 87th percentile.

Murchison achieves these top-tier results with notable efficiency, spending less per student ($8,950) than lower-performing district peers like Timmerman Elementary ($11,942) and Brookhollow Elementary ($11,138). However, 5th-grade science scores, while strong at 63.25% proficient compared to the district average of 25%, are not as dominant as its math and reading results, suggesting a potential area for growth. Overall, Murchison offers a proven track record of academic excellence, equity, and efficient resource use, making it a top choice for families in the Pflugerville area.

Open Quote My son completed third grade there, and he had the most amazing experience. His teacher was very helpful, and communicated great with us anytime we had any questions or concerns. The staff is great there, though we have recently moved to a different school we hope the experience at Dearing Elementary will be just as good. Close Quote
