Summary

Everette Lee Degolyer Elementary is a PK-6 public school in the Dallas Independent School District (Isd) serving 413 students, and it stands out as a consistently high-performing school in a neighborhood where many nearby schools struggle. With a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger for the past decade and a current state percentile rank of 79th, Degolyer offers a stable, strong academic environment. A key factor in its success is its relatively low poverty rate—51% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch—which is a significant advantage compared to nearby DISD schools like Leonides Gonzalez Cigarroa Md Elementary and Marcus Leadership Academy, where over 95% of students are economically disadvantaged.

Degolyer’s strongest academic area is upper elementary math, with 6th-grade math proficiency at 75.76%—more than double the district average of 32.35%. This is a standout achievement that no other nearby school matches. However, the school has a notable weakness in 5th-grade science, where only 36.36% of students are proficient, though this still exceeds the district and state averages. Interestingly, Degolyer’s closest competitor, Harry C Withers Elementary (0.92 miles away), has a nearly identical poverty rate (49%) and is also a 4-star school, but Withers outperforms Degolyer in 3rd and 4th-grade reading and math, suggesting a stronger early-elementary foundation.

While Degolyer excels overall, there are areas for improvement. The school’s Gifted and Talented program ranks surprisingly low, in the 40th percentile, which is unusual for a school in the 79th percentile overall. Additionally, there is a significant achievement gap within the school, with Hispanic and economically disadvantaged students performing at lower levels than their peers. For parents seeking a stable, high-performing school with a strong math program in the upper grades, Degolyer is an excellent choice, but it’s worth noting that Harry C Withers Elementary may offer a stronger start in the early years.
