Summary

Lakewood Elementary is a high-performing public elementary school in Dallas, Texas, serving 960 students in grades K-5. The school consistently ranks among the top elementary schools in the state, maintaining a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger and outperforming the district and state averages on standardized tests across all grade levels and subject areas.

Lakewood Elementary's exceptional academic performance extends across diverse student subgroups, including male, female, Hispanic, and white students, as well as English Language Learners, Special Education students, and students from low socioeconomic backgrounds. The school's 5th-grade students scored an impressive 93.22% proficient or better in STAAR Reading, compared to 57.24% for the Dallas Independent School District and 57.83% for the state. This high level of achievement may be attributed to the school's relatively low student-teacher ratio and significantly higher spending per student ($10,624 in 2020-2021) compared to the district average.

While Lakewood Elementary outperforms the district and state, nearby schools such as Mockingbird Elementary and Solar Preparatory School for Girls at Bonham also demonstrate high academic achievement, with rankings in the top 5% of Texas elementary schools. This suggests that the Dallas area is home to several exceptional public elementary schools that are providing quality education to their students.

Open Quote Lakewood is the best elementary school in Texas in my opinion - I base this on social and academic aspects. Grads from Lakewood go on to Newsweek Top High School Woodrow Wilson where they always rank highest in the class (with some competition from Stonewall Jackson). However, Lakewood is very much like a small town and you will find that the friends made there last a lifetime. It really is like a family. Very reassuring as time goes by to have that rock of loyal friends, Close Quote
