Summary

Dan D Rogers Elementary is a PK-5 campus in the Lakewood/White Rock area of Dallas, serving 450 students within the Dallas Independent School District (Isd) and consistently earning a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger over the last five years.

This school stands out as a high-performing, high-poverty model in a competitive landscape. While 76% of its students qualify for free or reduced lunch, the school ranks in the 96th percentile statewide for serving this subgroup—a remarkable achievement compared to nearby schools like Jack Lowe Senior Elementary (98.5% low SES, 64th percentile overall) and Jill Stone Elementary At Vickery Meadow (99% low SES, 33rd percentile overall). Dan D. Rogers also excels in supporting Special Education students, ranking in the 98th percentile statewide, and its 5th graders achieve science proficiency at nearly 2.5 times the district average. The school’s bilingual program is highly effective, with students taking the Spanish STAAR test outperforming the state average for Spanish-language test-takers by a wide margin—for example, 64.7% of 5th graders were proficient in Reading on the Spanish STAAR, compared to just 32.9% statewide.

In the broader neighborhood, schools form clear tiers: elite performers like Lakewood Elementary and University Park Elementary serve affluent populations and rank in the top 5-10% of the state, while Dan D. Rogers leads the second tier as a solid performer serving a diverse, middle-to-low-income community. The school’s only notable area for growth is with its Gifted and Talented students, who rank in the 14th percentile statewide—a common challenge for schools that focus heavily on closing achievement gaps. Overall, Dan D. Rogers proves that a high-poverty school can achieve strong, consistent results and serve as a pillar of opportunity in its community.
