Summary

Kittrell Elementary School is a PK–5 school in Readyville, Tennessee, serving 345 students as part of Rutherford County Schools. The school currently ranks at the 50th percentile statewide with a 3-star rating, placing it right around the middle of Tennessee elementary schools. That represents a meaningful rebound from recent years, when Kittrell had slipped to the 37th percentile in 2023–2024 before recovering to the 49th percentile in 2024–2025 and now sitting at the 50th percentile.

One of Kittrell's most distinctive strengths is how well it serves specific student groups. Students from low socioeconomic backgrounds rank at the 77th percentile statewide (up from the 48th percentile two years ago), and special education students jumped from the 20s to the 68th percentile in a single year. Chronic absenteeism is also a bright spot at just 9.8% — well below the state average of 18.3% and a dramatic improvement from 16.6% just two years earlier. The school has also built solid academic momentum: math proficiency jumped from 32.5% in 2023–2024 to 47.8% in 2025–2026, and 4th grade math now outpaces both the district and state averages.

Still, Kittrell faces real challenges. Science proficiency sits at 42.2%, below the state's 46.9%, and 3rd grade science is especially concerning at 25.0% compared to 44.3% statewide. Early-grade literacy also needs attention, with 3rd grade ELA at 30.2% versus 44.9% statewide. Compared to nearby Rutherford County elementaries, Kittrell trails Lascassas Elementary School, Buchanan Elementary School, and Homer Pittard Campus School by roughly 14–30 percentage points across subjects. Kittrell also spends more per student ($16,722) than most of those schools, making its mid-tier results a notable talking point — though the recent academic gains suggest those investments may be starting to pay off.

Open Quote Wonderful teachers, staff and principal that do the best they can to work hand in hand with their students parents. They go above and beyond every day to provide the best education possible. It would be nice to see parent work with the school more so their children can receive the best education possible. Bullying is at a minimum and is handled quickly and efficiently. They spend so much time not only on education but on our children's character and integrity. Close Quote
