Summary

Glencliff Elementary School is a PK–5 school in Nashville, Tennessee, serving 596 students within the Metro Nashville Public Schools district. The school currently ranks 882nd out of 1,019 Tennessee elementary schools, placing it in the 13th percentile with a one-star rating—a slight improvement from recent years. Academic proficiency in 2025-2026 was below district and state averages in every subject, with math at 26.1%, English language arts at 22.7%, and science at 22.7%. The largest gap is in science, where Glencliff trails the state by more than 24 percentage points.

One of the most concerning trends is a sharp decline in performance between 3rd and 5th grade. In math, 3rd graders score 32.3% proficient, close to the district average of 33.5%, but 5th graders fall to just 12.3%, compared with a district average of 37.3%. That 20-point drop runs counter to the upward trend seen in most schools. English language arts shows a similar pattern. On a more positive note, the school has improved its ELA proficiency from 12.1% in 2023-2024 to 22.7% in 2025-2026, and science has risen from 16.7% to 22.7%.

Glencliff has some notable bright spots. English Language Learner students rank in the 68th percentile statewide, and African American students have climbed to the 44th percentile. Chronic absenteeism is just 16.2%, better than both the district and state averages. The comparison with nearby John B. Whitsitt Elementary School is striking: Whitsitt spends a similar amount per student, yet its math proficiency is 62.6% compared to Glencliff's 26.1%. Aventura Community School spends far more but has lower math and much higher absenteeism, while Rocketship United School has similar test scores but nearly double Glencliff's absenteeism. Glencliff outperforms several nearby schools, including Tusculum Elementary School, Haywood Elementary School, Glenview Elementary School, and Paragon Mills Elementary School, but the gap with Whitsitt shows that better results are possible with similar resources.
