Summary

Aventura Community School is a small K-8 school in Nashville, TN, serving 284 students in the Metro Nashville Public Schools district, and after a very difficult 2024-25 school year, it posted double-digit gains across every tested subject in 2025-26.

Aventura's biggest academic strengths are English Language Arts and science. In 2025-26, 38.3% of students scored proficient in ELA and 41.1% in science — both above the district average and competitive with nearby schools. In fact, Aventura's science proficiency was the highest among the schools compared nearby, and its ELA was second only to Norman Binkley Elementary School. Math is a different story. Only 20.9% of students scored proficient in math, well below the district's 32.4% and far behind John B. Whitsitt Elementary School, where 62.6% of students are proficient. This is especially notable because Aventura spends more per student — about $23,600 — than any other school in the comparison, including schools that spend thousands less and post much stronger math results.

Attendance and equity are also concerns. About 30% of Aventura students were chronically absent last year, nearly twice the state average and among the highest in the local area. Academic results also vary widely by student group: boys, students with disabilities, and students from low-income families are scoring far below their peers, and these gaps will need to be addressed for the school's overall improvement to continue. The good news is momentum. Aventura's state ranking jumped from the 7th to the 27th percentile in one year, a larger gain than any nearby school. Whether that progress sticks will depend on improving math instruction, reducing absenteeism, and making sure all students benefit — not just some.
