Summary

Norman Binkley Elementary School is a PK–5 public elementary school in Nashville, TN, serving 762 students as part of Metro Nashville Public Schools. Ranked 668 out of 1,019 Tennessee schools (34th percentile, 2 stars), Binkley sits in the middle range of elementary schools — but with a strong upward trajectory. The school has climbed from the 4th percentile in 2016–2017 to its current standing, and it outperforms its district in most subjects.

Binkley's clear academic strength is math, with 42.3% of students proficient, nearly matching the state average (43.0%) and well above the district (32.4%). Math scores have risen 12.3 percentage points in the last three years. ELA proficiency (38.6%) also beats the district (31.8%) but trails the state (40.6%). Science remains the weakest subject at 32.6% proficient, below both district and state averages. Compared to nearby schools, Binkley outperforms Tusculum Elementary, Glencliff Elementary, Haywood Elementary, and Paragon Mills Elementary, but trails higher-performing neighbors like Glendale Elementary and Crieve Hall Elementary. Notably, Binkley achieves these results while spending less per student than several lower-performing schools in the area.

One of Binkley's most promising metrics is chronic absenteeism: just 13.9% of students are chronically absent, far better than the district's 23.3% and the state's 18.3%. The school's 4th grade stands out as a bright spot, with scores exceeding state averages in both math (48.1%) and ELA (49.0%). While science scores have stagnated, Binkley's steady academic progress and strong attendance culture suggest a school that is building momentum. For families in the area, Binkley offers a balanced, improving option — not the top-performing school in its neighborhood, but one that is clearly moving in the right direction.

Open Quote I love this school. My daughter is in 4th grade and she started here when she was in second grade. The teachers are the best, and the principle's. Also the counselors are amazing and the special classes. My daughter has excelled in two years to above her grade level. They take their time and the love the student. If I could give this school a million stars I would. Close Quote
