Roane County Schools serves approximately 5,584 students across 18 schools in Kingston, Harriman, Rockwood, Oliver Springs, and Ten Mile, including six elementary schools, five middle schools, six high schools, and one alternative school, and ranks 64th out of 141 Tennessee districts. The district outperforms state averages in Math (47.1% vs. 43%), Science (52.1% vs. 46.9%), and Social Studies (54.9% vs. 51.4%), while matching the state in ELA (40.5% vs. 40.6%). Chronic absenteeism is lower than the state (15.9% vs. 18.3%), and the graduation rate is 89.6%.

The Midway cluster stands out as the district's model of excellence. Midway High School ranks in the 88th percentile, Midway Middle School in the 86th, and Midway Elementary School in the top quartile. Cherokee Middle School (87th percentile) and Dyllis Springs Elementary School (84th percentile) are also top performers, with Dyllis Springs improving from rank 287 to 167 in two years. Kingston Elementary School ranks in the 82nd percentile with strong science scores. At the other end, Rockwood High School ranks in the 27th percentile with very low Algebra I proficiency (14.7%), yet has the district's highest graduation rate (96.8%), highlighting a disconnect between credentials and demonstrated mastery. Harriman High School, Ridge View Elementary School, and Bowers Elementary School also struggle significantly below district averages.

Oliver Springs Middle School has the lowest absenteeism (9.9%) yet ranks only in the 40th percentile, showing attendance alone is not enough.
