Summary

West End Elementary is a PK-5 public school in Easley, SC, serving 643 students within the Pickens 01 district, where 100% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch. The school currently holds a 3-star rating (58th percentile statewide), a notable recovery from its 2-star low in 2023-2024, though still below its 4-star peak in 2017-2018.

West End shines in the early grades but struggles to maintain momentum. In 3rd grade, students outperform both district and state averages in ELA (71.4%) and math (71.1%). However, by 5th grade, math proficiency plummets to just 31.3%—a staggering 25.5-point gap behind the district average of 56.8%—and ELA falls to 56.7%, below the district's 68.6%. This "reverse" trend suggests the school builds strong foundations but loses ground as students advance. A persistent gender gap also exists, with the school ranking in the 64th percentile for female students but only the 43rd percentile for males over the past three years. On a positive note, the school performs relatively well for its Hispanic students (60th percentile) and has improved chronic absenteeism from 32.9% to 19.8%, though that rate still exceeds nearby peers.

The most telling comparison is with Forest Acres Elementary, just 1.78 miles away. Both schools have similar enrollment and nearly identical per-student spending ($11,465 vs. $11,451), yet Forest Acres ranks in the 71st percentile (4 stars) and outperforms West End in every subject and grade level tested—for example, 5th-grade ELA at 78.1% versus 56.7%. West End also spends more than high-performing Anderson 01 schools like Wren Elementary ($10,580 per student, 92nd percentile). This suggests that while resources and demographics are similar, differences in leadership, instruction, or school climate may be driving the outcomes. For parents, West End offers a strong start for young learners, but the school faces clear challenges in sustaining growth through the upper grades.

Open Quote My child was in K-5 here and we absolutely loved this school. I loved the staff, the way they taught, everything! We unfortunetly had to move to Columbia SC into school district 1, and they are NOTHING like West End. It has actually brought us to the decision to move back to Easley and put our daughter back in this wonderful school. I honestly cant wait and my daughter is so excited to be back there. We love you West End!!! Close Quote

Open Quote Getting a teachers conference with your childs teacher is next to impossible. School is behind North Carolina school my child attended previously. Administration acts like it's a bother to answer questions and never return emails. Unless you go into the school personally, you will not get any answers. Close Quote
