Summary

Pelham Road Elementary is a K-5 school in Greenville, SC, serving 757 students within the Greenville 01 school district, and it has earned a reputation as one of the most consistently high-performing elementary schools in the state.

What truly sets Pelham Road apart is its remarkable consistency and equity. The school has ranked in the 95th-97th percentile statewide for the past decade, never dropping below that elite level. Even more impressive, it achieves top-10% results with its students from low-income backgrounds (about 34-36% of the student body) and ranks in the top 6-8 schools statewide for supporting students with disabilities. Test scores tell the story clearly: in 2025-2026, 84-86% of students scored proficient in English Language Arts and Math, compared to state averages of 49-65%. The school also maintains a chronic absenteeism rate of just 11.3%—less than half the district average of 22.5%—which is a strong indicator of a positive, engaging school culture. While there is a slight dip in 5th-grade math scores (77% proficient), this pattern is common across high-performing schools and still exceeds the state average by 28 points.

Compared to nearby options, Pelham Road offers an exceptional combination of results and efficiency. It outperforms Brook Glenn Elementary (ranked 288th) and East North Street Academy (ranked 350th) while spending less per student ($12,179 vs. $14,573 and $14,796). While Sterling School, a magnet school 3.7 miles away, posts slightly higher scores, Pelham Road achieves its results with a more diverse, neighborhood-based population. For families seeking a stable, high-achieving public school that serves all students well, Pelham Road Elementary is a standout choice.

Open Quote I attended this school kindergarten through fifth grade, and loved every moment of it. There is really a community of students and teachers working together to make you and your child's learning experience the best it can possibly be. The teachers are extremely involved and personally interested in your child's journey in learning and preparation for later in their education and life. I still go back today to visit and the receptionists know me by name. There are also clubs and activities for your child to try and experience, for example when I attended Pelham there was a morning news team, beta club, chorus, a running club, computer club, and a battle of the books team and probably others that I can't think of off of the top of my head. I always felt safe and happy at this school. I left and went to middle school well prepared and in the highest level classes. I definitely recommend this school for every family who is concidering moving into a house that is zoned for this school. Close Quote
