Summary

Sterling School is a public magnet school in Greenville, SC, serving 749 students in grades PK through 8 within the highly regarded Greenville 01 school district.

Sterling School is an academic powerhouse, currently ranked #6 out of 649 elementary schools in South Carolina (99th percentile) and holding a 5-star rating. What makes this especially impressive is its consistency—the school has ranked in the top 10 statewide for five consecutive years, climbing from #60 in 2016-2017 to its current elite status. The school's unique PK-8 structure is a major advantage: while most nearby schools stop at 5th grade, Sterling's performance actually improves in middle school. In 6th grade, 98.9% of students scored proficient in both ELA and math (versus district averages around 47-60%), and an incredible 100% of students have passed the Algebra 1 End-of-Course exam for three straight years. Attendance is another standout—chronic absenteeism sits at just 6.1%, roughly 3.5 times lower than the district average of 22.5%, reflecting highly engaged families and students.

Compared to nearby schools, Sterling sits in a clear top tier alongside Augusta Circle Elementary (#2), far outpacing schools like Summit Drive Elementary (#61) and Blythe Academy (#146). Notably, Sterling achieves these results while spending $14,089 per student—less than Hollis Academy ($15,507) and East North Street Academy ($14,796), both of which rank in the bottom half of the state. With a favorable 14.7 student-teacher ratio and a magnet school environment that attracts motivated families, Sterling School offers a rigorous, efficient, and highly effective education that prepares students exceptionally well for advanced coursework.

Open Quote I'm a parent of two kids in CTC. It's a really wonderful school. It's great for kids who need to be moving faster and with more challenges than in other schools. I've been very happy with the program. A large majority of the teachers are very good - covering the same curriculum as required by SC, but moving faster and deeper and making it more interesting. The kids also move into some classes earlier - they all finish geometry, 9th grade English honors, and 9th grade Spanish honors in 8th grade. I have also found the administration to be very flexible in understanding and meeting the needs of each kid, even if that requires extra work for the school. Close Quote
