Summary

Sara Collins Elementary is a K-5 school in Greenville, SC, serving 917 students within the Greenville 01 school district, and has maintained a solid 4-star rating for over a decade.

For parents, this is a school that offers a dependable, mid-to-high tier education with some notable bright spots. The school is particularly effective with its upper-grade students; 5th graders significantly outperform the district average in both math (75.8% vs. 60.4% proficient) and English Language Arts (81.6% vs. 71.5%). It also shows a strong commitment to supporting students with disabilities, ranking in the top 20-25% statewide for this group over the past three years. Additionally, the school is efficient with its resources, spending about $12,253 per student—roughly $2,500 to $3,500 less than nearby schools like Hollis Academy or Thomas E. Kerns Elementary—while achieving better overall results. However, the school's biggest challenge is a significant achievement gap, as its overall ranking masks lower performance for students from low-income households and certain minority groups. Chronic absenteeism is also a concern at 17.6%, which is much higher than top-performing neighbors like Augusta Circle Elementary (2.6%) or Sterling School (6.1%).

In the local landscape, Sara Collins sits firmly in the middle tier. It outperforms several nearby schools, but it trails elite performers like Augusta Circle (ranked #2 in the state) and Sterling School (#6), both located within two miles. While the school's 3rd grade scores fall slightly below district averages, the strong upward trajectory through 5th grade suggests effective instruction builds over time. For families, this is a solid, stable choice, but those seeking the absolute top-tier academic outcomes in the area may want to explore the higher-ranked options nearby.

Open Quote Because we're migrants, my K5 son was treated differently.
The school management wouldn't hesitate to give my son 5 days bus suspension because he stood up in the bus and we've no other transportation to and from school, this was addressed several time to the school management and to dive other discipline than bus suspension as bus suspension will mean school suspension.... they never really cared..
While in other day, another kid cursed my son, spited at him and told him the F word twice, my son complained to the bus driver and i wrote an email to the vice principles but NOTHING HAPPENED.
They Just want certain category of people in this school. Close Quote
