Aiken Scholars Academy

Aiken Scholars Academy is a small, highly selective public high school in Aiken, SC, serving just 176 students in grades 9-12 within the Aiken 01 school district. This school is an academic powerhouse, consistently ranking as the #1 or #2 high school in the entire state of South Carolina over the past several years, and it has never fallen below #4. It holds a perfect 5-star rating and achieves results that are virtually unmatched anywhere in the state.

For parents, the most striking numbers are the school's perfect outcomes. Aiken Scholars Academy has maintained a 100% graduation rate for five straight years, with a 0.0% dropout rate, while nearby comprehensive high schools like Aiken High and North Augusta High report graduation rates between 80% and 91%. The difference in academic achievement is even more dramatic: 100% of students score proficient on state End-of-Course exams in Algebra 1, English 1, English 2, and U.S. History. In contrast, the same exams at nearby schools typically see proficiency rates of only 50-75%. Chronic absenteeism is nearly nonexistent at 2.2%, compared to a staggering 25-39% at neighboring high schools, showing that students are highly engaged and motivated.

This success comes from a focused "scholars academy" model that attracts high-achieving students from across the district. Interestingly, the school achieves these results with a higher student-to-teacher ratio (25:1) than nearby schools, and in a recent year it actually spent less per student than its peers. While the school's student body is relatively affluent, the data shows exceptional performance across all student subgroups. For families seeking a rigorous, elite academic environment where near-universal proficiency is the norm, Aiken Scholars Academy is arguably the premier public high school option in South Carolina, far outpacing even strong charter alternatives like Fox Creek High.
