Summary:

Woonsocket, Rhode Island, has 12 schools: seven elementary, three middle, and two high schools, with grades spanning kindergarten through grade 12; RISE Prep Lower Academy serves kindergarten through grade 8. In 2025, elementary and middle-school proficiency was generally far below state results, while the high schools were closer but differed substantially from each other. The most important overall finding is that results vary widely by school: the high-school average was about 9–10 percentage points below the state, compared with roughly 18–25 points below for elementary and middle schools.

RISE Prep Lower Academy led the listed elementary schools in all-grades ELA (26.4%) and math (24.6%), ahead of runner-up Leo A. Savoie School by 4.8 and at least 9.5 points, respectively; both RISE results were still below state figures. Globe Park School led elementary science at 18.7%, compared with 17.5% at Harris School and 31.1% statewide. Among middle schools, Woonsocket Middle at Hamlet had the highest ELA (11.0%) and math (8.1%), while Founders Academy led science (11.3%); all were far below state results. BEACON Charter School led the high schools in ELA, math, and science, at 45.7%, 15.2%, and 34.9%, compared with 31.3%, 12.8%, and 6.5% at Woonsocket High School.

Recent changes are mixed, so a current lead should not be mistaken for a steady upward trend. From 2024–25 to 2025–26, BEACON fell 22.3 points in ELA and 22.5 in science, while its math fell 8.8; Woonsocket High’s math rose 2.9 points even as its ELA and science declined. SchoolDigger percentile ranks also moved in different directions from 2023–24 to 2025–26: Hamlet gained 10 points, while BEACON lost 11 and RISE lost six. School context can help with comparisons, but it does not explain results: BEACON has 203 students and an 11.9 student–teacher ratio, versus 1,646 students and a 15.2 ratio at Woonsocket High, yet other schools’ ratios do not neatly track proficiency. Woonsocket High’s 88.2% graduation rate is also above the state’s 85.5%, despite its lower proficiency results.
