Sprague High School is a 9–12 comprehensive high school in south Salem, Oregon, serving 1,712 students as the third-largest of the six comprehensive high schools in the Salem-Keizer School District 24J. About 89% of its students are economically disadvantaged, and the school spends $19,497 per student. Its recent history is a steep slide followed by a modest rebound: Sprague ranked in the 90th percentile of Oregon high schools (5 stars) in 2016-17 and 2017-18, dropped to the 17th percentile (1 star) by 2022-23, and has since edged back to the 32nd percentile (2 stars) for 2025-26.

Sprague's clearest strength is getting students to graduation. Its 93.3% graduation rate is second only to West Salem High School among the district's comprehensives, and it sits 13.6 points above the district rate (79.7%) and 10.3 points above the state rate (83.0%); it has held in the 91–94% range for five straight years. Science proficiency (29.4%) and English language arts (38.2%) both beat district averages, and Sprague achieves this while spending the third-least per student of the six comprehensives and carrying the third-heaviest class loads — an unusually efficient result.

Two areas stand out for families to weigh. Math proficiency is 12.0% — about half the district rate and roughly a third of the state rate — and the gap between Sprague's graduation rate and its math rate is the widest among local comprehensives; West Salem High School, a similar-sized school five miles away, more than doubles Sprague's math result. Chronic absenteeism is 52.6%, far above the district (43.1%) and state (33.5%), and it rose last year while both of those figures ticked down. Results also vary widely by student group: gifted and special-education students rank above the school's overall standing, while low-income students rank below it. Note that one year's poverty figure (66.91% in 2023-24) reflects a reporting change, not a real one-year drop.
