Summary

David Douglas High School is a public high school in Portland, Oregon, serving 2,810 students in grades 9-12. The school is part of the David Douglas School District, which is ranked 109 out of 140 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

While David Douglas High School has a diverse student population with strong performance for African American and Pacific Islander students, it struggles academically compared to the state average. The school's proficiency rates in English Language Arts (35.8%), Mathematics (17.6%), and Science (28.7%) are all lower than the state averages. Additionally, the school's graduation rates, ranging from 69.4% to 81.8% over the past few years, are also below the state average. The school's high rates of chronic absenteeism, ranging from 34.3% to 42.3%, indicate a need to address attendance and engagement issues.

Interestingly, the nearby schools, such as Reynolds Learning Academy, Parkrose High School, and Centennial High School, also face similar demographic and academic performance challenges. However, some schools in the higher-performing Portland School District, like Franklin High School and Benson Polytechnic High School, demonstrate stronger academic outcomes, suggesting that district-level factors may play a significant role in a school's performance.
