Summary

Awbrey Park Elementary School is a K–5 school with 401 students in the Eugene School District 4J, located at 158 Spring Creek Dr in the far northwest of Eugene, OR. The school was solidly mid-pack through the late 2010s and held near the 55th percentile through 2022–2023, but it has since slid sharply: 54th percentile in 2023–2024, 36th in 2024–2025, and 32nd in 2025–2026 (2 stars, rank 480 of 709). That recent drop is the central tension in the data.

Attendance is Awbrey Park’s clearest strength. Chronic absenteeism was 23.9% in 2024–2025, well below the district’s 33.0% and the state’s 33.5%. Science is another bright spot: 33.8% proficient, which beats the state’s 30.6% and is the only subject where the school exceeds its own ELA rate. But overall proficiency trails both district and state: ELA is 32.8%, math is 27.8%, and science is 33.8%, with the weakest results concentrated in 3rd-grade ELA (26.8%) and 4th-grade math (24.3%). One student subgroup stands out at the 93rd percentile (5 stars), up from the 63rd percentile in 2021–2022, while students in special education rank at the 5th percentile (0 stars), down from the 76th percentile in 2017–2018. Per-student spending has risen 23% over three years to $23,165, even as results have declined.

Compared with nearby schools, Awbrey Park sits above the Bethel School District 52 cluster in science and matches mid-tier schools in that district in ELA and math, despite it being a much weaker-ranked district. Irving Elementary School (1.14 mi) edges Awbrey Park in math and attendance with less spending. Within the Eugene School District 4J, Spring Creek Elementary School (0.69 mi) spends 24% more, has smaller classes, and outperforms in every core subject, but has worse absenteeism. Howard Elementary School (2.55 mi) has similar ELA and math scores but far worse absenteeism and science, while spending more. Coburg Community Charter School (3.5 mi) ranks 90th percentile but is a self-selected K–8 charter with much lower spending, so it is not comparable. The key question for families is whether the recent slide is a short-term cohort effect or a broader change.
