Summary

Danebo Elementary School is a public elementary school in Eugene, Oregon, serving 235 students in grades K-5. The school is part of the Bethel School District 52, which is ranked 117 out of 140 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Danebo Elementary consistently underperforms compared to the district and state in standardized test scores for English Language Arts and Mathematics. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, only 17.4% of 3rd graders, 32.4% of 4th graders, and 41.9% of 5th graders were proficient or better in ELA, compared to the district averages of 31.2%, 38.5%, and 36.3%, respectively. The school also has very high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 30% to 38.1% over the past few years, much higher than the state average. Additionally, Danebo has a high percentage of students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds, with 64.96% to 66.38% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch.

When comparing Danebo Elementary to other nearby schools in the Bethel School District, such as Irving Elementary, Fairfield Elementary, and Clear Lake Elementary, Danebo generally performs worse academically. However, the nearby schools also have high rates of chronic absenteeism and large percentages of students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds, suggesting that the challenges faced by Danebo Elementary are not unique to the school. In contrast, schools in the higher-performing Eugene School District 4J, such as River Road/Elementary Camino del Rio Elementary and Chinese Language Immersion School, have significantly higher proficiency rates in ELA and Math compared to Danebo.

Open Quote In years past they may have had more students per teacher, but the teachers were and are exceptional. My granddaughters and all the students were kept well focused, encouraged, Oh and the teachers never let on if they were burn out or tired. Always had a smile and an encouraging word.
