Summary

Ron Russell Middle School is a public middle school in Portland, Oregon, serving 752 students in grades 6-8 and part of the David Douglas School District. While the school has a relatively low student-teacher ratio and high per-student spending, it consistently underperforms compared to state and district averages on standardized tests, particularly in English Language Arts and Mathematics.

Across all grade levels, Ron Russell Middle School's proficiency rates in ELA and Math are significantly lower than the state averages. The school's performance also varies greatly among different student subgroups, with Asian, Multi-racial, and English Language Learner students ranking in the bottom 30% of Oregon middle schools. Additionally, the school faces challenges with high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 33.1% to 40.1% in recent years, which is much higher than the state average.

When compared to nearby middle schools, such as Happy Valley Middle School, Parkrose Middle School, and other schools in the Portland School District, Ron Russell Middle School is one of the lower-performing institutions in the area, despite its relatively low student-teacher ratio and high per-student spending. Addressing the underlying issues that contribute to these disparities should be a priority for the school and district to improve educational outcomes for all students.

Open Quote Overall, the RRMS middle provides a great environment for which children can learn. I have heard many positive things about from substitute teachers outside of the district that have an opportunity to work here in the school. Parents, and members from the community have good things to say,as well. Close Quote
