Open Quote We were very disappointed in this school and believe that it was a very poor match for our child and expectations. There are a couple of excellent teachers in the lower grades, from what have been told by some other parents, but they are terrible. Too much yelling and intimidation, little effort put into going beyond teaching to the standardized test, such as they are. No effort in motivating students or providing guidance and individual instruction. These teachers are lazy and have poor grammar. My son came in at an upper grade and was miserable his entire time, we had hoped for the best but wish we had gotten him out sooner. Sure, they spend many, many hours on bullying and team building only to turn their backs on rampant bullying and sometimes aggressive behavior among the kids. There are kids from other Mayfield schools, who were problematic and transferred to Gates Mills in the higher grades because there aren't enough Gates Mills students to fill the seats--most go to private schools. While not all of the teachers and admin at this school is ineffective, many need to retire so that they aren't taking up space that more effective, motivated and less jaded teacher could be utilizing.
