Massillon Intermediate School

Public Grades 4-6
Summary

Massillon Intermediate School is a public middle school serving grades 4-6 in Massillon, Ohio, with an enrollment of 899 students. While the school is part of the Massillon City school district, its performance appears to be lagging behind many of its nearby counterparts.

Massillon Intermediate School's test scores on the Ohio State Tests are generally lower than the state averages across all grade levels and subjects. For example, in 2024-2025, the school's proficiency rates were 52.1% in 4th grade Mathematics (vs. state 69.1%), 56.3% in 5th grade English Language Arts (vs. state 67.7%), and 52.4% in 5th grade Science (vs. state 63.4%). Additionally, the school has significantly higher chronic absenteeism rates, reaching 39.2% in 2024-2025, compared to the state average of around 15-20%. The school also has a higher student-teacher ratio of 19.3 in 2023-2024, compared to nearby schools ranging from 14.4 to 17.9.

When comparing Massillon Intermediate School to other nearby middle schools, such as Northwest Middle School, the performance gap becomes even more apparent. Northwest Middle School, which is just 8.94 miles away, had much higher proficiency rates in 2024-2025, such as 88.7% in 8th grade Science and 78.8% in 6th grade English Language Arts. Similarly, Massillon Intermediate School's chronic absenteeism rate of 39.2% is significantly higher than the 5.7% rate at Northwest Middle School and the 7.3% rate at Dalton Middle School. These disparities suggest that Massillon Intermediate School may be facing unique challenges that require further investigation and targeted interventions to improve student outcomes.

Open Quote Poor excuse for an intermediate school ,I have ever come in contact with. The Building has 4-8th graders enrolled . The kids are "Separated by? still haven't figured that out yet" The educator definitely instruct without credibility to be teaching what they are.Every excuse the parents hear, year after year when they let go a talented teacher or 10 They are so poor they could not afford to pay them. in 2 years my child has had 6 IEP teachers ,and the best one has left end of last school year.
