As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote i have been incredibly impressed with Canterbury Elementary and CHUH in general, after a transfer from a private alternative school a few years ago. the parents are engaged, and we regularly welcome community tutors who volunteer their time for the good of our kids. there are so many ways to get involved, in the building or district wide, no matter your skills or interests. the Heights is known as an area of activists, many of whom send their children to the public schools.

special offerings in the form of after school clubs, series and workshops is vibrant. recent opportunities have included the programming from Shaker Lakes Nature Center, yoga, drumming, dance, martial arts. after school programs are more affordable than private classes, welcome in a district with a variety of families all along the socioeconimic spectrum. reasonable tuition-based aftercare is offered 5 days a week as well for working families.

i wish there was not as much testing, but that is a criticism i have of public education in general. Canterbury teachers still do a remarkable job within the sometimes limiting confines of state and federal policies. the state test scores get a lot of attention, though, and in 2014 Canterbury was awarded a State of Ohio Honor School of Progress, in recognition of 5 years of improving scores, especially among our most disadvantaged students. they sometimes arrive behind, but get more than a full year of growth in every grade. Canterbury received the designation of Excellent from the State in 2012.

the arts programming is stellar, and my child loves the challenging and interesting projects. on the softer side, we love that we can walk to school and that our child is welcome to be as quirky as she is. and i so appreciate that ALL kids get the opportunities they need to thrive. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
