Summary

Ohio Connections Academy Inc is a statewide online public charter school (an e-school) serving kindergarten through 12th grade, enrolling 5,191 students as its own single-school district from an office suite at 8351 N High St in Columbus — far more students than any other school in its comparison group, and a model defined by statewide reach rather than a neighborhood attendance boundary.

Its headline outcomes look solid. The 2025-26 graduation rate was 82.4%, up from 73.2% four years earlier, and 14.8% of students were chronically absent — the third-lowest rate among seven nearby schools with data, better than Columbus Preparatory Academy and KIPP Columbus, though both graduate a higher share of their students. Graduation ranked fourth of seven, behind Metro Early College High School and KIPP. Against its closest true peer — Great River Connections Academy, another online Connections Academy — it leads on 19 of 20 tests and both outcome measures while spending less per student. Note that at roughly 40 students per teacher, staffing is thin, and online ratios may be calculated differently than for brick-and-mortar schools.

Academics are the weaker half. Ohio Connections Academy scored below the state average on all 20 tests reported for 2025-26, averaging about 42.6% proficiency against 61.1% statewide. Math is the biggest drag (about 26 points behind), with the largest single gaps in third, fourth and fifth grade math, and those elementary grades have each slipped roughly 15 points over four years. Geometry has never topped 25%. The strongest results sit in graduation-gateway subjects — American Government, English II and Biology.
