Metro Early College High School in Columbus, OH, is a public K–12 school with 869 students at 1929 Kenny Rd. that operates as its own district. Its 2025–26 graduation rate is 98.4%, and chronic absenteeism is 13.6%, down from 21.5% in 2021–22. That combination—high graduation and relatively low absenteeism—stands out among nearby alternatives: KIPP Columbus has a similar 98.6% graduation rate but 35.1% chronic absenteeism, and Columbus Preparatory Academy has 96.3% graduation but 30.5% absenteeism. Metro’s free/reduced lunch rate rose to 49.48% in 2024–25 from 35.39% in 2022–23 while attendance improved, and its student/teacher ratio is 18.4.

Academically, Metro is strongest in social studies, biology, and middle-school English language arts. Metro is above state in 3rd, 6th, and 7th grade math, but below in 4th (54.5% vs. 67.3%), 5th (52.5% vs. 59.1%), and 8th (43.5% vs. 52.0%). Eighth-grade math is still a gap, though it improved sharply from 14.3% in 2023–24 to 26.0% in 2024–25 and 43.5% in 2025–26.

Compared with nearby schools, Columbus Preparatory Academy is Metro’s closest academic peer: it matches or exceeds Metro in some areas, including English II, Algebra I, and Biology, but Metro has much stronger Geometry (52.1% vs. 21.6%) and much lower absenteeism. KIPP Columbus has smaller classes (10.8 students per teacher vs. Metro’s 18.4) but much higher absenteeism and lower proficiency in nearly all tested subjects. Great River Connections Academy is much weaker overall: 66.8% graduation, 17.7% absenteeism, and test scores far below Metro and the state. Specialized state schools such as Ohio School for the Deaf, Ohio State School for the Blind, and Special Education Center serve very different populations and are not direct academic benchmarks.
