Bright Local is a small Ohio district with three schools serving students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade: Bright Elementary School (PK–6, 432 students), Whiteoak Junior High School (7–8, 113 students) and Whiteoak High School (9–12, 174 students) — 719 students in all. The district ranks 361st of 773 Ohio districts, at the 53rd percentile with 3 stars, but that single rating hides three quite different schools.
Both Bright Elementary School and Whiteoak Junior High School perform above the district's percentile. At the elementary, 3rd grade math (84.6%) and ELA (81.1%) far exceed state rates of 62.1% and 63.4%, and 5th and 6th grade ELA are also above state, while chronic absenteeism is the district's lowest at 7.4%. But 4th grade ELA (59.4%) and 5th grade science (61.7%) sit slightly below their state comparators, and the school's rank has slipped from 77th percentile with 4 stars in 2023–24 to 61st percentile with 3 stars. The junior high ranks highest at 65th percentile with 3 stars, with standout results in 8th grade science (86.5% vs. 61.2%), 8th grade math (71.2% vs. 52.0%) and Algebra I (100% vs. 61.6%). Those are impressive, though the school enrolls only 113 students and 7th grade math fell to 34.9% (state 48.6%).
Whiteoak High School ranks lowest, at the 40th percentile with 2 stars, and has the district's highest chronic absenteeism at 14.4%. Its strengths are a 95.9% graduation rate, Biology at 80% (state 67%), English II at 68.2% (state 62.7%) and Algebra I at 68.6% (state 61.6%), all improved over 2024–25. Geometry (31.7% vs. 43.3%) and American History (63.3% vs. 73.2%) remain below state, and 98.28% of its students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Because these schools are small, year-to-year changes reflect different cohorts rather than the same students' growth.
