The 07960 list includes nine schools: six elementary schools, one middle school, one high school and one alternative school, serving children from elementary through high school. Unity averaged 63% in grades 3–5 ELA and math in 2025–2026, respectively 8 and 8 points above the other four tested elementary schools’ averages; its fifth-grade science result was 71%, 34 points above those schools’ average. Normandy Park School also stood out, averaging 62% in ELA and 60% in math—7 and 5 points above the other four schools’ averages. Results vary sharply by grade: third-grade ELA was 34% at Alexander Hamilton versus 57% at Normandy Park, while fifth-grade science ranged from 25% at Sussex Avenue School to 71% at Unity. At the middle-school level, Frelinghuysen Middle School averaged 59% in ELA and 37% in math; Morristown High School was stronger in ninth-grade ELA (60% versus 51% statewide) than in several math results.
Recent elementary averages remain above state results, but the advantage narrowed: ELA’s school-to-state gap went from 11 points in 2024–2025 to 8 in 2025–2026, and math’s from 11 to 9. Frelinghuysen’s math average, by contrast, rose from 23% to 37%, moving from 10 points below the state to 4 above. SchoolDigger’s 2025–2026 statewide percentiles were 80 for Unity, 71 for Normandy Park and 64 for Frelinghuysen. Ratios and income measures do not show a simple pattern with test results: elementary student–teacher ratios ranged from 8.2 at Hamilton to 10.9 at Sussex Avenue, while free/reduced lunch eligible figures for 2024–2025 ranged from 17% at Unity to 58% at Hamilton. These figures provide context, not an explanation of school results.
