Northwood Elementary's academic success is evident across multiple measures. In the 2023-2024 school year, 53% of students were proficient or better in mathematics, compared to the state average of 41%. Similarly, 59% of students were proficient or better in reading, exceeding the state's 53% average. Other notable characteristics of Northwood Elementary include its low percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 9.88% to 16.49% over the past three school years, and its consistent student-teacher ratio of around 10.7-10.8, which is lower than the state average and several nearby schools like Barrington School District and Epsom School District. These factors, combined with the school's strong academic performance, suggest that Northwood Elementary may serve a relatively affluent student population compared to the surrounding area, which could contribute to its success.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Poor leadership, poor staff support, poor discipline, poor accountability. There are some wonderful teachers at this school, but their efforts are not supported. As with other towns, financial problems are huge and losing teachers and support staff have done a number on staff morale (or so it seems from a parent's perspective). The town doesn't want to give any more money to taxes (who does?) yet those who are determined not to raise the taxes have already gotten their kids through the school and are now voting down everything the school needs. No more music? No more art? Foreign language is a JOKE in this school. Only certain kids can take foreign language. The high school in this town is supposedly top notch so you'd think the elementary school would be too. That logic doesn't work with Northwood Elementary School. The kids deserve better than what they are getting. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
