Summary

Manchester Memorial High School is a large public high school serving about 1,296 students in grades 9–12 in Manchester, New Hampshire, within the Manchester School District. Its size and comprehensive program offer a broad high school experience, but recent results show important areas for improvement. The school ranked 81st of 89 New Hampshire high schools, placing it near the bottom statewide, although it ranked slightly ahead of Manchester Central High School, Manchester West High School, and Manchester School of Technology.

Memorial’s clearest academic strength is reading. Forty-three percent of students reached proficiency, compared with 31% across the district, though the state rate was 55%. Math and science were much weaker, with proficiency rates of 14% and 13%, respectively. These results trail nearby schools such as Bedford High School and Londonderry Senior High School by a wide margin. The school’s student–teacher ratio is a moderate 14.3:1, so its academic challenges do not appear to be explained simply by unusually large classes. Parents may want to ask about math and science support, course placement, tutoring, attendance, and access to advanced or career-focused programs.

Memorial’s graduation rate was 78.4% in 2024–2025, better than the Manchester district average of 75.4% but below New Hampshire’s 87.0%. Its 9.7% dropout rate was also better than the district’s 12.1%, yet substantially higher than the state’s 2.3%. By comparison, Pinkerton Academy, Londonderry Senior High School, and Bedford High School report stronger completion outcomes, while Manchester School of Technology stands out within the city with an 87.1% graduation rate. Overall, Memorial appears to be one of the stronger traditional high schools in Manchester, but it remains well behind the state and several nearby communities in academic achievement and student completion.

Open Quote Last year my son attended a school rated 10/10. We moved to Manchester (memorial high) and now he's petrified. The school is full of gangs, drugs, and violence. Monday, five calls to the police, now police are all over the school trying to keep it calm. School didn't inform anyone until the next day parents complained. His AP Math teacher is head of the department and he sits on his phone instead of teaching the class. His other teachers are doing a great job. I feel bad for kids or parents that would recommend this school. They must not have any idea what a good school is. I also feel bad for the teachers. We will move to get out of this school.
