Summary:
Hinsdale School District serves about 518 students in three schools covering prekindergarten through grade 12 in Hinsdale, New Hampshire: one elementary school, one combined middle school, and one high school. Overall, the district ranks near the bottom of the state, but performance varies considerably by school and subject.
Hinsdale Elementary School is the district’s strongest academic performer and the clearest area of improvement. In 2025–2026, 31% of students were proficient in mathematics, 39% in reading, and 26% in science—higher than the district averages in every subject. Results also improved from the prior year, especially reading, which rose 12 percentage points. Third grade was a particularly strong elementary grade, with 41% proficient in mathematics and 43% in reading. Even so, elementary results remained below New Hampshire averages, and fourth-grade mathematics was a relative weakness.
The secondary schools face greater challenges. Hinsdale Middle High School ranked at approximately the first statewide percentile, with 13% proficiency in mathematics and 25% in reading. Hinsdale High School performed better in reading, at 43%, but mathematics proficiency was only 14%; its assessment results declined in all reported subjects. The high school’s 88.8% graduation rate is slightly above the state average, although its 5.5% dropout rate is more than twice the state rate. The sharp drop from elementary to middle school performance suggests that math instruction, the transition into secondary grades, and student support through high school are important priorities. Small enrollments can also cause noticeable year-to-year changes in percentages.
