Westmoreland School District

Westmoreland School is the only school in the Westmoreland School District, serving approximately 125 students from kindergarten through Grade 8 in the small community of Westmoreland, New Hampshire. Because there is just one school, its results provide a direct picture of the district’s academic performance. The school has a 9:1 student-teacher ratio and a 20% free- or reduced-price lunch participation rate.

The school has shown substantial recent improvement. Its statewide ranking rose from 149th of 234 schools in 2023–2024 to 54th of 230 in 2025–2026, while its ranking percentile increased from the 36th to the 77th percentile. Its rating also improved from two stars to four stars. In 2025–2026, students performed above New Hampshire averages in every all-grades subject: 63% were proficient in mathematics compared with 44% statewide, 71% in reading compared with 55%, and 64% in science compared with 38%. The largest advantage was in science, where performance exceeded the state by 26 percentage points.

Parents may especially note the strong middle-grade reading results and science achievement. Grade 7 reading proficiency reached 79%, and Grade 8 reading was 71%, compared with 57% and 51% statewide. Grade 5 science was another standout result at 73%, or 35 points above the state. Mathematics also improved significantly, rising 19 points from the prior year, although Grade 7 mathematics remains the clearest area to monitor at 50% proficiency. Grade 5 reading, at 55%, was the only tested area below the state comparison of 58%. Overall, the available data describe a small, improving K–8 school with strong science and reading outcomes, favorable staffing conditions, and performance well above statewide averages.
