Summary

Knightdale Elementary is a public elementary school serving 549 students in grades PK-5 in Knightdale, North Carolina, which is part of the Wake County Schools district. While the district is ranked 60th out of 242 districts in the state and has a 4-star rating, Knightdale Elementary has consistently ranked in the bottom quarter of North Carolina elementary schools over the past 10 years.

The school's performance on state standardized tests is significantly below the Wake County and North Carolina averages across all grade levels and subjects. For example, in 2024-2025, only 46.3% of 3rd graders at Knightdale Elementary were proficient in reading, compared to 57.2% in Wake County and 46.7% statewide. The school's performance is particularly low for Hispanic and English Language Learner students, who rank in the bottom 10-20% of schools in the state. However, the school's Gifted and Talented students rank in the top 4% of North Carolina elementary schools, suggesting the school is able to effectively serve high-performing students.

Knightdale Elementary has a very high percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 46.18% to 74.73% over the past few years, which is significantly higher than the nearby Carver Elementary, Barwell Road Elementary, and Forestville Road Elementary. Despite these challenges, Knightdale Elementary has a relatively low student-teacher ratio and per-student spending on par with nearby schools, suggesting that addressing the needs of its high-poverty student population should be a priority.

Open Quote Wonderful close knit school filled with teachers that care about student success. We have been thrilled with the quality education our daughters are receiving at KES. Close Quote

Open Quote I feel that the majority of the teachers there do not care about those kids. When someone outside tries to invest time in helping the kids, then some of the teachers try to bully the person or run them away. I see some kids with great potential, but sadly I do not think they will ever get the support they need with the caliber of teachers there. I also feel like there are things going on beneath the surface that they try to hide from people on the outside. Close Quote
