Summary

Cary High is a public high school serving 2,136 students in grades 9-12 in Cary, North Carolina. It is part of the Wake County Schools district, which is ranked 60 out of 242 districts in the state and has a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Cary High consistently performs above the state and district averages in End-of-Course (EOC) exams, particularly in subjects like English II, Math III, and Biology. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, Cary High had 70.2% proficiency in EOC English II, compared to 59.6% for the state and 70.6% for the Wake County district. However, the school's performance in Math I is slightly below the state and district averages. Cary High also maintains a strong four-year graduation rate, ranging from 83.2% to 91.3% over the past few years, which is generally on par with or slightly above the district and state averages.

While Cary High excels in supporting its Special Education and Gifted/Talented students, it struggles relatively more with its Hispanic and English Language Learner subgroups. This suggests the school may need to focus on improving support and interventions for these underperforming subgroups. Cary High's higher percentage of free and reduced-price lunch recipients compared to some nearby schools, such as Green Hope High and Needham Broughton High, indicates a more diverse socioeconomic student population, which may present both challenges and opportunities for the school.

Open Quote The class sizes are huge. Teachers are doing their best, but the budget cuts have effected the quality of education. Certain classes have been cut which makes it difficult for placement of students in the appropriate classes. Lower the teacher: student ratio!!! Close Quote
