Summary

Green Hope High is a large traditional public high school in Cary, NC, serving 2,304 students in grades 9–12 as part of Wake County Schools. The school remains a solid academic choice: it earns a 4-star rating and ranks 124th out of 662 North Carolina high schools, placing it in the 81st percentile. Its End-of-Course test results are well above both district and state averages — for example, 86% of students score proficient in Biology and 87.4% in English II, compared with state averages of 58.5% and 64.6%. Still, Green Hope's standing has softened from its pre-pandemic days, when it routinely landed in the top 15 statewide with a 5-star rating.

One big change: Green Hope is no longer the automatic front-runner in its own neighborhood. Green Level High, less than three miles away, now outperforms Green Hope on every tested subject, and Apex Friendship High also edges it out on Biology and English II. Even so, Green Hope beats Panther Creek High on most measures and remains well ahead of Cary High. The school's relative weak spot is Math I, where 60% of students score proficient — far below Green Hope's 89.3% mastery in Math III, though still about 18 points above the statewide average. Chronic absenteeism of 14.8% is lower than the county average, but it is higher than Green Level's 9.4%, Panther Creek's 11.2%, and Apex Friendship's 12.4%.

Green Hope deserves particular credit for strong outcomes with some student groups: it ranks 5th in North Carolina for serving English Learner students (98th percentile) and 37th for special education students (90th percentile). Multiracial students also earn strong marks at the 97th percentile. Results are more uneven in other areas — gifted students rank at the 68th percentile, and the African American subgroup dipped to the 54th percentile after two much stronger years, which is worth monitoring. The school has a low poverty rate (12.5% free/reduced lunch) and a higher-than-average student-teacher ratio of 20.5 to 1; focusing on Math I, attendance, and subgroup consistency could help it regain its former 5-star status.

I would never send my child to this school. If you are considering moving into this high school you might as well just call it quits because your life will go down the toilet. Unless you like wearing ugly clothes and have plain straight brown hair and are on drugs, you most likely will hate it. Close Quote
