North Stanly High

North Stanly High is a traditional public high school serving 568 students in grades 9–12 in New London, NC, as part of Stanly County Schools. The school currently ranks 382nd among North Carolina high schools, placing it at the 42nd percentile — a solid improvement from the 19th percentile two years ago. It now sits second among the district's four traditional high schools, behind West Stanly High but ahead of South Stanly High and Albemarle High. It also outperforms nearby East Rowan High and South Davidson Middle and High. Application-based schools like Stanly Early College High, Stanly STEM Early College, and Gray Stone Day rank much higher, but they serve smaller, more selective student bodies, making those comparisons less direct.

Math I is the school's standout subject, with 50% of students proficient in the latest year, above the state rate of 42.1% and most nearby traditional high schools. That result is striking because the prior year's Math I rate was just 9.1%, so families should watch whether the improvement holds. The graduation rate rose to 90.2%, above the state's 88.8%, but it was only 79.2% the year before. Chronic absenteeism remains the biggest concern, affecting roughly 35% of students — far above the state rate and comparable to Albemarle High.

Most student subgroups improved in the latest rankings. Low-income students rose to the 40th percentile, White students to the 30th, African American students to the 23rd, and gifted students to the 23rd. Special education students, however, rank at the 6th percentile statewide, which deserves serious attention. North Stanly High also serves a student body with very high economic need — nearly 98% qualify for free or reduced-price lunch — a pattern seen across nearly every school in the area. West Stanly High consistently posts stronger results across most subjects and has a higher graduation rate.
