Summary

Summersill Elementary is a public elementary school located in Jacksonville, North Carolina, serving grades PK-5 with a total enrollment of 523 students. The school is part of the Onslow County Schools district, which is ranked 116 out of 242 districts in the state.

Summersill Elementary has seen fluctuations in its statewide ranking over the past several years, ranging from a high of 358 out of 1,489 North Carolina elementary schools in the 2020-2021 school year to a low of 908 out of 1,502 schools in the 2022-2023 school year. The school's current ranking for the 2024-2025 school year is 807 out of 1,490 schools, with a 2-star rating. Summersill's student performance on state assessments has been mixed, with strengths in 5th grade science and 5th grade reading, but lower performance in 3rd grade mathematics compared to the district and state averages.

Interestingly, Summersill Elementary's performance is generally lower than that of nearby schools in the Onslow County Schools district, such as Parkwood Elementary and Carolina Forest Elementary, which have higher student performance and rankings. However, Summersill outperforms some nearby schools, such as Clyde Erwin Elementary and Jacksonville Commons Elementary, in certain subject areas and student subgroups. The school's high percentage of economically disadvantaged students, ranging from 49.62% to 69.13%, is likely a significant factor contributing to its overall performance and ranking.

Open Quote The teachers at this school are truely amazing. they go above and beyond to curb towards every child individual skills. A lot of other schools seem to focus more on the children who are struggling ( They gotta bring up those test scores)while the children who are excelling tend to become board. That was not my experience here at all. My oldest two children tested way beyond average for their grade level but their teachers rose to the challenge and gave more advanced work to them to keep them motivated and on task. My youngest struggled a bit at first with his math but his teacher refused to allow him to fall behind. He has extra homework- to keep him on par with the other students. WE LOVE THIS SCHOOL. FYI-- For incoming 1st graders, I strongly recommend Mrs. Lee and Mrs. Tucker. They are both amazing. Close Quote
