Summary

Grand Oak Elementary is a public magnet elementary school located in Huntersville, North Carolina, serving 526 students in grades K-5. The school is part of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools district, which is ranked 119 out of 242 districts in the state.

Grand Oak Elementary consistently ranks among the top elementary schools in North Carolina, with a statewide ranking between 19-47 over the past 10 years and a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger. The school excels in academic performance, with students significantly outperforming the district and state averages in standardized test scores across all grade levels and subject areas. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, 90.4% of 3rd-grade students were proficient or better in mathematics, compared to 66.7% for the district and 64.1% for the state.

While Grand Oak Elementary demonstrates exceptional overall performance, the analysis also reveals opportunities for improvement in serving gifted and talented students, as well as the need to consider the academic performance and diversity of the surrounding schools, such as Davidson K-8 School and J.V. Washam Elementary, which also rank highly in the state. Additionally, nearby schools like Blythe Elementary and Torrence Creek Elementary serve a higher percentage of students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds, suggesting that Grand Oak Elementary may have less socioeconomic diversity compared to some of its neighboring schools.

Open Quote We have been so happy with Grand Oak Elementary! Everyone from administration, to teachers (we've loved every teacher we've had!!) to staff show not only concern for the student's academic achievement but for their over all well-being. We love that Grand Oak is a personalized learning school. I find this programming allows teachers to meet students where they are in their academic journey as well as teach students skills in problem solving, independence, and time management. In addition there is also a big focus at the school on kindness and generosity towards one another. Overall Grand Oak is a really amazing learning environment for my kids. They love going to school and I am grateful for everyone at the school that works hard to create such a place that gets them excited about learning! Close Quote

Open Quote GOE is a great public school. Not only they have great teachers, but also, the teachers and the staff know every kid by his or her name and they genuinely care about them. Parents have a lot of opportunities to get involved and the support of the PTA and the parents is fantastic. Close Quote
