Summary

Stoney Creek Elementary is a K-5 public elementary school in Charlotte, NC, serving about 850 students in the northeastern University City area as part of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Nearly all of its students — 99.6% — qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. After several difficult years that dropped the school to the 9th percentile statewide, Stoney Creek posted a dramatic rebound in the most recent year, jumping to the 30th percentile in North Carolina's elementary rankings. Proficiency rates rose by double digits in most subjects, moving the school from a 0-star to a 2-star rating.

Test scores still trail district and state averages in most grades and subjects, but science stands out as a genuine bright spot: 5th grade science proficiency reached 68.4%, slightly above the state average of 67.7%. Fourth grade is the weakest point, with math proficiency at 38.9% versus 66.5% districtwide. Subgroup rankings show real strengths with English Language Learners (80th percentile statewide) and African American students (64th percentile), while male students (15th percentile) and special education students (9th percentile) need more support. Nearby comparisons are striking: Cox Mill Elementary, about 3 miles away, ranks in the 97th percentile with far lower poverty, while Mallard Creek Elementary serves a similarly high-poverty population and still reaches the 55th percentile.

Soo glad I called today to double check my daughters actual start date. As we were given 2 different ones. Two calls later , it was confirmed that it is tomorrow.
Like our experience of Stoney Creek hasn't been crappy enough already.
Thanks for having us wait 15 minutes in the heat before unlocking the doors to parents & children on open day. Really pleasant second impression.
First being all the comments I could find to date writtien about the school. Leaves me feeling this is going to be a long year.
I do hope that the new Principal, Susannah Barr can pull this place up to the standard that is never mind expected but in reality is REQUIRED of a school that as the CMS.
I really hope you teachers do your best for the kids. I know you don't get the best deal as teachers. However, the decision to become a teacher was yours.
Make it count please for the sake of the kids & their future!

I am an aunt of an student that attends Stoney Creek. One day I came to visit my niece and once arriving in the office, I was not immediately greeted. Once, everyone felt the need to acknowledge me, I requested to see my niece. Here is the MOST dangerous part to this review, NO ONE and I repeat NO ONE ever asked me for ID OR to sign into a log, nothing, I was able to leave the office with my niece and 2 of her classmates. Once I left I began to think, this is EXACTLY how children go missing from school. Literally, that day anyone could have come proclaimed to be me and took my niece right out the school. Close Quote
