Lexington Senior High School is a public high school in Lexington, North Carolina, serving 889 students in grades 9–12 as part of Lexington City Schools. Nearly all students come from economically disadvantaged households, yet the school is on a clear upward path. It has climbed from the 25th percentile statewide in 2023–24 to the 45th percentile for 2025–26, ranking 367th out of 662 North Carolina high schools and earning 2 stars.

The brightest spot is graduation. Lexington's graduation rate jumped from 76.1% to 91.7% in just two years — now above the state average of 88.8% and significantly higher than Thomasville High's 76.0%. Academically, the picture is more mixed. Lexington's Math III proficiency rate of 78.8% tops every nearby comprehensive high school, including Oak Grove High and West Davidson High, and sits well above the state average of 68.9%. Biology proficiency of 60.7% is essentially at the state average. The main academic weakness is English II, where 50.3% proficiency trails the state's 64.6%.

Lexington also stands out for strong results with historically underserved student groups: English Learner students rank in the 77th percentile statewide, and low-income and gifted students have shown considerable gains in recent years. However, chronic absenteeism is a serious hurdle. At 39.4%, Lexington's rate is well above the state average of 24.2% and far higher than nearby North Davidson High (8.1%). Reducing absenteeism offers the clearest path to accelerating the school's momentum. Lexington already outperforms Thomasville High, its most similar neighbor, on nearly every measure. If the current trend continues, this could soon be one of the stronger comprehensive high schools in the region.
