Southwest Elementary Global Academy is a 1st–5th grade school in Lexington, NC, serving 369 students in the Lexington City Schools district, which overall ranks in the bottom quarter of North Carolina districts. The school serves a very high-poverty population — more than 99% of students qualify for free/reduced lunch — yet it stands out as the strongest grade 1–5 elementary school in its district. In 2025–26 End-of-Grade tests, Southwest led its local peers in math (58.7% proficient across grades 3–5) and reading (44.5%), compared with math scores of 42.8% at Pickett Elementary School and 45.9% at Charles England Elementary School, and reading scores of 42.0% and 38.9% at those same schools.

Math is Southwest's clearest academic strength. Attendance is the most visible area for improvement. Southwest cut chronic absenteeism from 35.4% to 25.6% in a single year, but that rate remains above the state average of 24.2% and well above nearby Tyro Elementary (8.1%), Davis-Townsend Elementary (11.2%), and Southwood Elementary (15.5%). Reading is the school's primary academic challenge, with proficiency typically 8–13 points below the state average. Southwest's state ranking has slipped from a 44th-percentile peak in 2022-23 to the 32nd percentile in 2025-26, though it remains well above its 27th-percentile ranking from 2018-19.
